TetraStation Community Rules

These are a set of firm guidelines to ensure that people's experience here is an enjoyable one; rather than being a shitstorm of hateful arseholes.

General Rules

  1. Don't Be A Rules Lawyer

If you want to dance a merry jig on the line of "Well, it isn't explicitly banned in the rules" when an admin tells you to stop doing something, out you shall go.

We all know that one prick who likes to play the game of "I'm not touching you", seeking retaliation so they can tell the teacher that you hit them. Don't be that prick.

  2. Bigotry is a Hard No

This includes, but is not limited to: Racism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. Don't be slinging slurs or bigoted language (e.g. 'retard', 'trap', or using 'gay' in a derogatory manner.), don't make rape "jokes", don't treat ethnic cleansing or genocide as a fucking joke either.

And no, misspelling it slightly doesn't make it acceptable. If it would get you punched in the jaw saying it to someone's face, maybe really consider whether it's worth saying at all.

If an admin tells you to stop doing/saying something because it violates this policy, it is not up for debate. Stop, or fuck off. See Rule 1.

    1. The Devil Does Not Need Pro-Bono Advocates.

We've all heard "it's just jokes, bro!" before. We've all seen chucklefucks "just playing devil's advocate". All it does is provide irony-flavoured cover for shit to creep in.

If you don't kick the nazi out of the bar, it becomes permitted and commonplace, and he'll invite his buddies. Even if they're not calling for the death of anyone, it's going to drive other people out of the bar, because they aren't comfortable in a place that lets scum hang about.

And before you know it, you're running the nazi bar. And we don't want that. The only nazi bar this server supports, is the one you hit them with.

  3. Do not name your character/yourself after controversial figures

If you need a rule of thumb as for what counts as controversial: avoid naming your character after murderers, abusers, religious figures, or a name that's made it on the news. If you want to call yourself 'Albert Einstein', go right ahead egghead; but 'OJ Simpson' is right out.

If an admin asks/tells you to change your name because it violates this rule, see rule 1.

  4. No Explicit Content

Avatars, images, or other messages that can be deemed pornographic, sexually charged, emotionally harmful, excessively shocking, or generally distasteful are not particularly welcome here. There are plenty of other places you can throw your pornographic images, the internet is full of them; but here is not an appropriate place for them.

Just because this is not intended as a child-friendly place, doesn't mean it needs to be horny all the time. No ERP, thx.

  5. Do NOT Impersonate Admins

It really shouldn't need to be said, should it? Quietly reminding people of the rules is fine, but don't take it upon yourself to enforce them. Don't threaten to get people banned, etc.

    Nobody likes a mall-cop, Blart.

Game Rules

  1. The General Rules Apply, Too

    'nuff said.

  2. Don't Grief

We're all here to have fun; don't piss in people's cheerios just because it makes you happy without considering what sort of negative -- or round-ending -- impact you're going to have on other people.

Harming people (including, but not limited to: Killing, dismembering, stripping, crippling, force-feeding, force-borging, setting up death traps, wrecking portions of the station, uploading murder laws to the AI, deliberately blowing shit up in inappropriate spaces) with little to no justification runs up against this rule.

Legitimate conflict will occur -- it's the whole point of the game, after all -- and it's very contextual; but conflict should escalate in a reasonable fashion! If you're throwing people out into space just because they're taking too long at the soda machine, you're getting ridiculous.

Antags, of course, are expected to cause trouble; it's why they're there.

    1. Do not self-antag

Don't suddenly decide to go on a murderbone rampage, because you've gotten bored or the clown has slapped you with a pie one too many times. If you're an antag, the game will tell you. Anything else is just griefing. Even if it is only the clown you're throwing out of the airlock.

    2. Don't carry grudges between rounds

If someone was a jerk to you in one round, and you didn't quite manage to get back at them before the round ends: try to let it go. The next round is a new shift, a new day.

If you want to roleplay carrying a grudge over it, that's fine; but don't let it get out of hand, and remember there's another player behind that character, too.

  3. Avoid IC in OOC

Please don't use the OOC channel (where available) to spoil in-character events, such as the identity of an antagonist. OOC gets blasted to everyone, whether or not they'd be able to hear you in-character, and you wouldn't like it so much if you were trying to be sneaky...

Things to bear in mind

  1. Have you been made an antagonist?

Treat your newfound powers role as an interesting creative challenge, rather than an excuse to just go on a silent rampage and murder everyone. You can treat your objectives as suggestions as to what you should attempt to achieve, but you're entirely permitted to ignore them if you have something more entertaining and/or enjoyable in mind.

You aren't required to act in a nefarious or evil way, but a silent rampage is just boring. Think, how can you make the round more interesting?

  2. Conversely, be kind to the players of bad guys!

Antagonists are the primary driving force in a round, unless it's an `extended` slog, so some good-will should be extended to them, rather than just quietly toolboxing them to death on sight. Again, how can you make the round have a more interesting narrative?

  3. There is a difference between being a jerk, and being a griefer.

Being a jerk is almost expected in ss13, and things like minor theft, slipping, and so on are pretty much necessary for things to happen in the game. These are all things that don't severely impact someone else's ability to enjoy the game, and can be dealt with with in-game resources like Sec officers. (Look, it gives them something to do.)

The line between 'jerk' and 'griefer' is a fuzzy one, and which side of it you fall on depends on the admin, and how well you handle being told to ease up.

Stealing someone's ID, and it's a relatively calm round where the HoP hasn't run away into space yet? Annoying but relatively minor, they can always go get another one, and call Sec on you. Hunting them down over and over to keep stealing their ID? Not so cool.

(Stealing someone's ID and leaving them stuck in a locked room, while all hell's broken loose and the station's breaking in half, while you flee to escape? Rude, but hilarious. Try not to make a habit of it, though!)
